The Nicene Creed is Recited without the Filioque added by the Council of Toledo in Spain circa 531 A.D. This unprecedented and unilateral action was promulgated in Spain by the sole authority of the Spanish Bishops. As time went on the Filioque clause (and from the Son) was arbitrarily inserted in the recitation of the Creed in nearly all Nations and Diocese’s in the Western Church. Sadly it lead to the the Great Schism from the East in 1054.
Our Clergy wear Traditional Old Style Vestments. Our Priest’s and Bishop’s follow the Custom of the Centuries and face the Altar in the Celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Our female members follow the directive of St. Paul the Apostle and wear head veils during all Services of Public Worship. We take no shortcuts in the Celebration of any Sacramental Rite or Liturgical Ceremony. All Services Conducted Decently in Order with Dignity.
TRADITION WITH MEANING
Welcome to the Manse and Chapel of St Mary Magdalene on the Hill in Exeter, Missouri, staffed by the Rexist Brothers & Sisters of the Order of Christ Our Most Holy Redeemer and Heavenly King. The Order was Organized in Leeds, England in 1900 A.D. on the Feast of Christ the King. We are Orthodox in Belief – Catholic in Mission – Old Style English in Liturgy.
A full schedule of Traditional Worship is observed. The Manse and Chapel preserves the Orthodox Christian Catholic Faith through fidelity to the principles of Holy Mother Church from time immemorial. A Lighthouse in Today’s Turbulent and Tentative Waters we Find About us in our Daily Living. If it is not broke, Why attempt to Fix It?
The Divine Liturgy which also came to be called the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Communion Service are all correct designations of our Patrimony. These are expressions of the same Central Act of Christian Worship employed by the Faithful at different times and in various locales of our 2000 year History. All Eucharistic Rites and Sacraments are celebrated weekly or daily and depending on the feast or day of the week in the Chapel adjacent to the Manse or in the Oratory within it.
Located on the Grounds are the Manse which houses the Pastoral Center, the Archbishop John Charles Maier, OCR, Theological Library & Archives, the Christ the King Oratory (used for smaller Liturgical Celebrations) and the Living Quarters for the Rexist’s in Residence. Next to the Manse is the free standing Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene which is the Heart and Soul of who we are and unceasingly Pray to be. In good weather the Chapel is open to the Public every day for Private Devotion and Prayer. We make available to all Seekers Prayer Books and Bible’s to aid them during their Devotions.
The Altar Palm Sunday
The Chapel is appointed with Antiques & Liturgical Relics from many Chapels, Churches and Oratories and used in Service by those Saintly men and women who were the fore-bearers of our glorious Tradition. It is hallmarked with a framed Icon of St. Joseph of Arimathea encased with a cutting of the Glastonbury Thorn, a unique framed image of St. Mary Magdalene that captivates all who gaze upon it, a Statue of St. Augustine of Hippo in full Pontificals from the historic Cathedral pastored by Archbishop Emile Rodriguez y Fairfield in East Los Angeles, California dating back to the early 1900s, a framed Parchment Document some 200 years old issued by a French Archbishop and a Handcrafted Set of Stations of the Cross on Wood made and personally bestowed to us by artist Jack Bresee.
On October 27th 2021 being the Feast of St. Procula Witness to the Crucifixion & Martyr, we were Blessed to put into Liturgical Service a framed Image of St. Procula. She pleads with husband (Pontius Pilate) not to condemn and sentence our Lord Jesus Christ to Death. Her Witness to the Truth of the Gospel and Conversion have become for us an uplifting example of Courage and Strength. Her Feast Day is one of special Devotion and Celebration at the Manse and Chapel.

FOR PROSPECTIVE INQUIRIES COMING FROM CLERGY OF OTHER TRADITIONS
THE HISTORIC EPISCOPATE ~ APOSTOLIC FAITH AND ORDER
“Let us Reduce this Matter to the Ridiculous.” Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father & Philosopher
THE ESSENCE AND HEART OF THE APOSTOLIC ~ BOOK OF ACTS ~ TRADITIONAL ~ HISTORIC EPISCOPATE ~ IS MINISTRY TO THE SOULS OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST SHED HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD TO REDEEM. IT WAS NEVER THE TEACHING OF THE UNDIVIDED HOLY ORTHODOX CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR HER BISHOPS TO COLLECT PEDIGREE’S OR TO PROMOTE ECCLESIASTICAL ANCESTRIES THROUGH MULTIPLE CONSECRATIONS.
THE MISGUIDED INNOVATION OF PROMOTING CHRISTIAN UNION AND HEALING OF SCHISM IN THE CHURCH CANNOT BE ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH EPISCOPAL “(RE)CONSECRATIONS” AND AD HOC “ORDINATIONS”. SUCH ENDEAVORS HAVE IN FACT DONE JUST THE OPPOSITE. SPAWNING “INDEPENDENT – RENEGADE BISHOPS” TO WANDER ABOUT AIMLESSLY HAS GIVEN RISE TO CONFUSED LAITY WHO ENCOUNTER THEM, CHAOS AMONG THEIR RANKS, RIVALRIES, ENDLESS FEUDING AND CONFLICTING CLAIMS OF HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE AND TARNISHED ECCLESIASTICAL LINEAGES.
We have absolutely no Connection whatsoever to groups aligning themselves with the (ISM) Independent Sacramental Movement. Neither do we have anything to to with with 2 rival organizations (over flowing with “bishops”) who use the post nominals OCR after the names of their adherents.
The ISM adds many spurious groups “founded” by newly “made bishops” to their ranks on a weekly basis. Monikers such as “old catholic”, “independent catholic” and “radically inclusive” easily identify them. Due to the personalities and unstable individuals involved many disappear as fast as they are are spawned. They utilize Novus Ordo type liturgies, hold to no Doctrinal Standards, require little to no formal Theological Education, have a liberal social agenda, hold views that are at odds with Biblical Morality, sell Weddings and other Sacraments for set fees (SIMONY) and dole out quickie “ordinations” to members of both genders (ON DEMAND) simply for the asking. Some groups within the ISM have manufactured a third gender they now also “ordain”. The Book of Genesis (Old Testament) and the Epistles of St. Paul (New Testament) clearly condemn this abrasion and departure of Almighty God’s plan for his Creation.
Our Clergy no matter at what level are expected to have an active form of Ministry that touches the lives of people in a personal manner. A form of Liturgia to Christ’s Redeemed is required. Visiting your grandmother in a Nursing Home does not qualify as a Chaplaincy. Volunteering your time to serve the poor in a Soup Kitchen is noble work. However, it does not require Episcopal Consecration or wearing a Purple Shirt and Pectoral Cross. Celebrating a “holy mass” on a Coffee or Kitchen Table using Walmart candle holders, secular wine goblets and dinner napkins does qualify as Parish status in the Anglican Orthodox Independent Communion.
There are sincere, hard working and active Clergy who lead hands on Ministries that touch the hearts, minds and souls of their members on a one to one personal basis every day. Many of these Men use various forms of Social Media to support, solidify and strengthen their local Parochial Ministries and Chaplaincy’s. We have no objection to using such venues in a supplemental manner out of practical necessity. However, “running the church” USING A COMPUTER while (seated on a couch in your den;) logged onto Facebook, Youtube or Twitter IS NOT considered a recognized method for the exercise of Ministry in the Orthodox Anglican Independent Communion.
Thus, once more in the Spirit of the Late and Great Benjamin Franklin that we might be crystal clear on this matter. If your “monastery” is a one bedroom apartment or your “cathedral” is located in a spare bedroom or your “high altar” doubles as a computer desk or your “st. francis ministry” is feeding squirrels and pigeons peanuts in the park or your “services of worship” are confined to being viewed on a computer screen via the Internet or you do not publish your name, physical address and telephone number as is established parochial custom…………………… the Anglican Orthodox Independent Communion IS NOT the Church Home you have been looking for.
We require our Priest’s and Bishop’s to have properly Appointed places to conduct all Services of Worship Decently and in Order. A Holy Table or Altar, Traditional Altar Appointments, Sacred Communion Vessels, Altar Cloth’s ~ Communion Linens, an approved Altar Book with Stand and Complete Sets of Traditional Eucharistic Vestments must be used by the Minister in Charge.
The is no substitute for a Consecrated or Dedicated Church Edifice wherein to conduct Public Worship. In lieu of a Church Building or free standing Chapel, commercial space in a Building which can be properly Appointed and fitted to meet the needs of a Mission Parish is also desirable. If the circumstances or situation do not make this an option, there is the Domestic Oratory. There are many sincere Priest’s and Bishop’s who have with great care, expense and planning in concert with their wives utilized a room in their residence made to be proper and fitting for Worship. It must be set apart and not used as any other form of domestic living space. It will be located in an area of the dwelling that is conducive for such a Holy and Noble purpose. Irrespective of the building or space used for this Holy Service- Liturgia no corners will cut or reasonable expense spared. This that all Services Celebrated therein will be conducted with Dignity and strict adherence to the Rubrics as directed.
As a matter of public record and documented objective fact ++John Charles Maier, OCR (d. Dec. 2013) and ++Josephus Johannes Palumbo, OCR have a century of continuous Public Ministry between them. In their Service to Holy Mother Church both Prelate’s used Church Buildings, Chapels, Commercial Buildings and Domestic Oratory’s in Shepherding their Spiritual Flock’s. Accordingly, in leading by example our Bishop’s will do their part and provide guidance and assistance in all matters related above. We are determined to make certain our Ministers fulfill their several callings as the Almighty directs.
Innovations and the use of Liturgies other than those rooted in the Sarum-Corinthian Rite of Salisbury are not allowed to be Celebrated at our Altar’s. Neither is the Novus Ordo practice of facing the congregation. Presently those Service Books approved for the Divine Liturgy ~ Holy Communion are the 1549 English Sarum Book of Common Prayer, the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer, An Orthodox Book of Common Prayer (2002 ed.), the Anglican Missal, the American Missal (1931 & 1951 ed.) and the Sarum Rite Altar Missal (sometimes bearing the title of “Steps to the Altar”) made to conform to local Parochial Use and edited by P.G. Medd+. If we are to be True to our Olde English Liturgical Patrimony it only stands to reason we honor her Glorious and Dignified Ceremonial and Ritus in Public Worship. If Catechism’s or Articles of Religion are attached to these Approved Service Books they must be removed or the pages secured in such a fashion as they cannot be accessed by the Faithful. Pew copies of “An Orthodox Book of Common Prayer” are exempted from this requirement.
The Anglican Orthodox Independent Communion makes no provision for mingling different Liturgical Traditions together. This includes those whether they be Western or Eastern Rites. It goes completely contrary to the Custom of the Centuries to allow individual Bishops to make changes of Ceremonial or Ritus in a unilateral manner. This includes updating the Words of the Traditional Rites to conform to modern day linguistic usage. Our Eastern Orthodox brethren are proof positive that strict adherence to the Ancient Liturgies stand the test of time. This was also true of the Canterbury Communion until her liberal Theological Views (in the 1970’s) necessitated that she update and modernize her Prayer Books. The Church ORDO irrespective of which Altar Book is employed must be in strict conformity to reflect the (teaching) Commemorations of the Undivided Universal Church prior to the Schism of 1054. As was stated elsewhere our measure of reason in matters of Faith and Worship is “if it is not broke, why attempt to fix it?”
We welcome all Clergy who are seeking to establish any form of recognized and needed Ministry to Christ’s Flock. We by no means limit our Clergy to Parish Work. And we will do all within our means to assist serious Churchman in fulfilling this task. We have found far too many who seek to do otherwise that they might wear clerical attire and do nothing more than look for the recognition that goes with it. Without a single exception throughout the decades the Bishops of the Order of Christ the King and the Anglican Independent Communion – Original Province have had active Ministries. For over a Century our Bishops have led by example in this regard. We ask nothing of our Clergy that our Bishops do not fully take on themselves.
WE CANNOT OVERSTATE HOW FAR REMOVED THE ANGLICAN ORTHODOX INDEPENDENT COMMUNION IS FROM THE INDEPENDENT SACRAMENTAL MOVEMENT AND THE 2 RIVAL FEUDING ORGANIZATIONS USING THE DESIGNATION OF OCR.
“ALL GLORY BE TO THEE, ALMIGHTY GOD”
Titles such as Pope, Exarch, Patriarch, Cardinal, Pontiff and Universal Primate have no place among us. Forms of address as “Your Holiness” , “Your Beatitude” and “Worshipful” are audacious and repugnant to Holy Scripture being highly disrespectful to the place Almighty God has above His Creation. There is no greater or more noble and undeserved title as Father the Church bestows upon those men Ordained to the Sacred Ministry. Only “I AM THAT I AM” is Holy and only our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ (when He walked among us) has ever Lived out the Beatitudes to Perfection. The “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” alone is worthy of our Worship and Adoration. Him only do we “Worship in Spirit and in Truth” as we are Commanded and Admonished in St. John 4:24.
